Through its continued service to the green industry, Syngenta Professional Products strives to provide landscapers with resources they can use. The newest, “A Guide to Protecting Woody Ornamental Shrubs,” offers 40 pages of well-researched information on the most common diseases and insects affecting these plants. In addition, a table at the end helps growers and landscapers identify and treat these issues.
“There was a small challenge compiling this information because there are many woody ornamentals, as well as many issues,” says Nancy Rechcigl, technical manager for Syngenta. “We covered what shrubs would be most common throughout the U.S.; then we conducted a survey of eight universities to address the most common insects and diseases.”
While the guide was initially compiled for growers, landscapers can use it as a scouting guide. However, Rechcigl says most of the recommended products listed for treatment are for use at the growing site only.
“It’s in alphabetical order for ease of use, and we included a good description of where to look for pests/diseases and when to treat them,” Rechcigl says.
